Dean Tate

This portfolio provides an overview of all that Dean has worked on and it has an air of professionalism. I chose to research someone with a wealth of experience to determine the importance a veteran places on a portfolio. His landing page, which portrays him as a level and game designer, provides a comprehensive overview of his case studies and notable projects. His work choices, which are accompanied by in-depth descriptions, are available for potential clients to view when they examine the featured pages on the top menu. Dean chose an uncomplicated website structure, with clean font and a white background over showy designs and colourful layouts. Since Dean has been in the game’s industry for almost a decade, he has much to refer to, however, he makes the most pertinent points clear and concise, which is something I wish to replicate in my own write-up. The basic layout and simple nature of his portfolio is what appeals to me the most. It does not feel intimidating to read, due to its streamlined approach to displaying information, which again is something I will adopt, when creating my own portfolio.
Josh Caratelli

Josh is a game programmer who works at Activision and his main focus is on the Call of Duty series. It was important for me to research a position that is geared towards programming as, prior to my interest in the field of game design, I was focused on computer programming. Therefore, the presentation of a portfolio for this type of position is something I have previously experienced. With this experience in mind, I believe that I would have more understanding of what makes his portfolio distinctive, in comparison to my own in this field. His portfolio features an engaging video that offers his story as a game programmer and he is specific about the type of games he has worked on, as well as the challenges he has faced and he provides insights into how he overcame them. Recruiters and potential clients can check his LinkedIn profile, contact information, blog, personal projects, awards, C.V. and professional projects on the left-hand side of his website, and they are able to easily contact him at any point during their reading of his portfolio. I think it is also important to note that his website is on one page and it contains the relevant features that recruiters and potential clients require, this is something that I will be consider. Users who click on any of the links in the left-hand sidebar will be redirected to the corresponding link's webpage. Having a simple, yet detailed, design philosophy is something I will want to replicate, as it offered a very pleasant read with much information located in a small amount of space. The manner in which the information was laid out, made the volume of text feel about right, due to his use of bullet points, text placement and pacing with images and videos.
William Fredriksson

William mainly focuses on one specific level that he created. This is something I will pursue, due to my final project also being a single level, accompanied by a detailed write-up. It is excellent timing that while also creating a portfolio, I have just completed an in-depth approach to the creation of my own level. Having a specific and meticulous portfolio, such as mine, demonstrates my own style of game design to potential employers and hopefully I can get across my ideas in a way that seem fresh and detailed. Being clear with my ideas and having a relevant write-up to show my arguments, in terms of the decisions I made to create a sense of atmosphere or tone, is something I believe potential employers require. It demonstrates how I was able to use these design decisions to help create a successful product. With the feedback that I obtained from my test subjects during the development process, it clearly indicates the steps I took to listen carefully to players’ opinions. As a result, I can identify the compromises I made and the changes I incorporated during the development process., thus showing my commitment to create the most polished product possible.
